Common troubleshooting

Chrome must be running

Calendar Call Alert sets alarms inside Chrome. If Chrome is closed or the extension is disabled, no alert will fire.

System Do Not Disturb and Focus modes

Your operating system's Do Not Disturb or Focus modes on macOS, Windows, or ChromeOS can suppress Chrome notifications. That is separate from the extension's quick mute (volume-off icon on Home) and Work Hours settings. Check your system notification settings if alerts aren't showing.

Ring muted but notification still appeared

That is expected when Work Hours or quick mute is on, when you are already in another meeting, or when the ring auto-stops after 60 seconds. Work Hours (off by default) mute only the ring audio outside your chosen window — Chrome notifications still appear. The floating alert window opens only while the ring is playing. Work hours use your computer's local time zone.

Calendar sync and Refresh

The extension syncs about every minute (incremental) and fully reconciles with Google about every hour. Moving or editing a meeting should update the popup and ring time automatically within a minute or two. Tap Refresh (↻) on Home or Settings only when you want an immediate full sync — for example if the list still looks wrong after a reschedule.

Meeting moved to another day but still rang or showed the old time

Update to the latest version from the Chrome Web Store, reload the extension in chrome://extensions, then tap Refresh once. Current builds clear stale copies when Google updates an event and reconcile hourly. If a full sync cannot verify your calendar (for example an empty API response while you still have meetings), the extension keeps your previous schedule and shows an error instead of wiping it.

Notifications blocked banner in the popup

If you see 'Notifications are blocked' on Home or Settings, enable notifications for Calendar Call Alert in Chrome (chrome://settings/content/notifications). Ring audio and the alert popup window can still work; system notification toasts may not appear until you allow them.

Missed an alert after sleep or wake

Chrome alarms can be delayed while your computer sleeps. When Chrome resumes, the extension tries to reconcile meetings that should have alerted recently. You may get a late notification or popup — still keep Chrome open before important meetings.

Sign out from Settings

Sign out revokes your Google OAuth grant, clears cached meetings and alerts, stops the background sync alarm, and blocks silent re-connection until you tap Connect again. Your ring volume and Work Hours preferences are kept.

Silence vs. Dismiss

Silence stops the ring and returns the extension popup to Home; the Chrome notification stays so you can still Join. The floating alert window closes. Dismiss stops the ring, clears the notification, and marks the meeting dismissed.

No ring sound on first alert

Update to v1.0.0 or later and reload the extension. Current builds wait for the offscreen audio page to be ready and resume AudioContext before playing. If you still hear nothing, check quick mute, Work Hours, and system Do Not Disturb.

macOS notification action buttons

By default macOS hides notification action buttons (Join Meeting, Dismiss). Hover your cursor over the notification to reveal them, or check System Settings > Notifications > Google Chrome.

Meeting isn't showing up in the popup

The extension monitors your primary Google Calendar only. Secondary calendars, shared calendars, all-day events, and events you have declined are not included. The event must include a recognizable Google Meet, Zoom, or Teams link in its conference data, location, description, or title. The preview covers the next 7 days — tap Load more to see up to 15 events. Background sync usually picks up edits within about a minute; use Refresh if the list looks stale.

Zoom or Teams meeting didn't ring

Make sure the invite URL appears somewhere Google Calendar returns in the event — conference data, location, description, or title. The extension reads calendar data via Google's API only; it does not log into Zoom or Microsoft directly. If the link is in a secondary calendar or an attachment only, the extension won't see it.

Snooze and Work Hours

Snooze on an active alert reminds you again in 2 minutes and shows a brief Snoozed for 2 minutes confirmation. Work Hours (Settings, off by default) limit when the ring plays; outside your window you still get notifications, but no ring audio and no floating alert window unless a ring is active. Adjust Work Hours or turn off quick mute on Home if you need the ring back.

Test the extension before your next meeting

Open the extension popup, go to Settings (gear icon), and tap Test Alert. This triggers a full simulation — ring audio, Chrome notification, and the alert popup window — so you can confirm everything is working.

Session expired / reconnect prompt

If you see a 'Reconnect Google Calendar' message in the popup, your OAuth session has expired. Click it to re-authorize. This is normal and happens periodically.
